December Wind

"December Wind, 1999, by Nyoman Nuarta (Indonesia), explores man's relationship with nature. It possesses an aura of the heroic; of human pathos." -
Singapore Expo website

You can find this art in the car park of Singapore Expo. I think it is made of a thin sheet of metal, I think it is bronze. It is not noticeable in this angle, but it is actually like a molded sheet of metal, looking in front of it is like a bath tub. I guess if ever you'll be in Singapore, you should visit this sculpture to know what I mean. It is worth a vist, that's for sure.

Ambulance

I have no ambulance, I'm not a nurse, nor a doctor. But I offer my prayers for all of the victims of the earthquake in Indonesia. I pray that their physical and emotional wounds caused by the tragedy will heal soon.

Singapore Sale!

From May 26 to July 23 most of the shopping malls in Singapore offer BIG discounts. It is the Great Singapore Sale. As for me, I have yet to buy anything. I plan to visit the city this weekend, but still no shopping for me. Just want to see how many people are trying to take advantage of this sale.

Need cash?

Don't worry, this is not a multi-level marketing scheme. I found this shop near Bedok bus interchange. You can sell virtually anything, from disco balls, to golf clubs and believe it or not, wet suits. They also sell these items in the same store and to protect their business they have different doors for those who wants to sell and for those who want to buy stuff.

Pinoy ako...

The title means I'm a Filipino, and yes this is singapore daily photo. Confused? Actually, I'm a Filipino working in Singapore, that is why I only know little about this country and I'm blogging while exploring this country. I mentioned this since the picture shows a kid dancing the Pinoy Big Brother dance step. Pinoy Big Brother was a hit tv show in Manila patterned on Big Brother show from europe. When I was in Manila, I did not really like the song neither the band who sang it (Orange & Lemons). But wow, there is a Filipino concert here in singapore, and the crowd (mostly Filipinos but there are some Indians & Chinese) is enjoying it. The concert was held in Marine Cove inside East Coast Park.

Many thanks to heartrock, yes heartrock singapore (not hard rock ) for sponsoring this concert. Galing mo pre!

Up, up and away

Do you want to go for a ride? First I thought this was just a promotion for DHL since they are sponsoring Mi3. Later I found out that you can actually ride the balloon for 23 SGD.

Mushroom!

Mushroom anyone? Ok this is not the edible type. But since there are many Chinese in Singapore, it is very common to find a dish with mushrooms, some use fresh mushrooms, some use dried mushrooms. Too bad for me since I don't like eating mushrooms.. :รพ

Dine by the beach

Sorry if I missed a day, I was so busy at work during day time and my phone's camera doesn't work in the evening. (it needs plenty of light)

This is actually an old picture, I decided not to post it the first time because there are too much shadows, not really a good shot. I haven't tried the food here but the cab driver told us that it is good. Once my wife pays me a visit, I'll definitely try this and take better pictures. This restaurant is part of Pasir Ris Park.

No wonder..

No wonder there is no flood in Singapore. Look at this canal, it is so huge, huge enough to fit a ten wheeler on it. This canal is parallel to Pasir Ris Drive 3. I tried looking for information about this canal but I can't find any on the web.

Loyang Avenue

There are two reasons why I chose this picture. First is because I can show how clean Singapore is. You would not see a pile of garbage anywhere. And you can also see how much the Singaporean Government apreciates plants. Almost in all of the major highways here, you can see trees and plants.

Another reason is that this picture shows the road leading to Changi Village which I hope to show to you once I have the time ( and the money ) to go there.

Al-Istighfar

One cool thing about Singapore is that you can find different people with different religions, living in a small island peacefully. There are muslims, christians, buddhists. It's great, considering that many wars were fought because of religion.

This is a picture of Muslim Mosque in Pasir Ris. For more information about this mosque, click here

Eunos Bus Interchange

One skill you need to master when you plan to live in Singapore is remembering numbers. You must know which bus number go to which street number. Let say, bus 358 will pass Pasir Ris Drive 3, then 6 then 1, then 4 then 41 etc. So many numbers. The picture shown above was Eunos Bus Interchange, just below Eunos EW (East West) Mrt Station.

Strictly Singapore

One thing I like about this poster is the fact that Singapore not only have strict implementation of their laws, but they show these laws using some cute advertising. I found this poster in a Hawker Center & market.

Another Playground

There are two types of apartment here in Singapore, a private one and a HDB (Housing Development Building). HDBs are low cost housing but are very well maintained. Aside from the cost, one major difference of HDB & private apartments is it's amenities. But some HDB apartments have few amenities like playgrounds (like the one shown above), table tennis & badminton courts. Most of the private condos have gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts and 24 by 7 security.

Mangrove Boardwalk

You can find this inside the Pasir Ris Park. There may be a hundred of mangroves in there which covers the 6-ha forest. There is an elevated boardwalk that allows you to walk inside this mangrove forest. This allows you to see all the inhabitants of the forest. There is also a Bird Watching Tower.

Pasir Ris Park

This park is located near Downtown East, it is in fact located at the back of Downtown East. Here, you can go biking, jogging and skating. You can also bring your family or friends here, have a BBQ since there are many BBQ pits available or rent some private cottage nearby. There are also parts where you can go fishing or swimming.

Downtown East

Well, yesterday I told you about Wild Wild Wet. It is in fact part of Downtown East, a project of NTUC. Here you can find an arcade, billiard hall, a pool, wild wild wet, a theme park and many more. Last friday night, there was also a free movie but you have to sit on the floor since no chairs were provided.

Wild Wild Wet!

Since Singapore is near the equator, you can expect that the temperature here is a bit hot. And the best way to cool down in this side of Singapore is Wild Wild Wet water theme park.

Well ok, it sounds like a commercial or brochure. The place looks very cool to me, but I haven't tried it. I'm still thinking whether it is worth to spend S$12.90 for it. It looks kinda small to me. Once I tried it, I'll post the pictures.

By the way, for those interested, it is located near Pasir Ris Station, few blocks away or you can take a bus or a cab. It is actually inside Downtown East, a recreational center here. For more information visit http://www.wildwildwet.com/index.asp

More of merlion

This is one of the series of pictures I took in Merlion Park. I have no chance to take a picture yesterday, since I was moving to a new apartment in Pasir Ris. In this picture you can also see the Esplanade Theater. It is shaped like a Durian (that Filipino word), a stinky but (most people say) delicious fruit. I never really liked durian.

Super thanks!

I found this guy near Sim Lim Mall, the most popular gadget mall in singapore. He stayed in this position for at least 10 minutes. Everyone was looking at him but no one bothered to give him some coins.

Thank you for those who visit my blog everyday. I know lately I've been posting some so so pictures, but will make up to you guys soon. Thank you.

The port

I found this docking port near the Merlion Park. It reminds me of Corregidor Island in the Philippines.

hotel's facade

hotel's roofdeck

my wife's coming to visit me on July! Yey! I checked out this hotel (found it at Lonely Planet: top 5 author pick) for our mother-in-law and aunt who are coming over with her.. It's pretty cool, very modern AND very cheap. So if anyone's coming over here in singapore, you might want this check this out.

Singapore Parliament

My post for yesterday, May 9, 2006:

Sorry for the late post, got home really late last night, I have finally found an apartment and we're moving in (with 2 of my current roommates) this Friday! Anyway, walked pass this the other day, checked the website, and got confused. It said, "By way of Proclamation in Government Gazette No.943, Parliament stands dissolved as of 20/04/2006." I googled this and turns out it just follows Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's decision to call for an early general election.

a lion that is not lion, and a fish that is not a fish

It is the Merlion, probably the most known symbol of Singapore.
They say this is a must do for a tourist in Singapore to visit the Merlion, although when my wife went to singapore last February, she was not able to visit Merlion Park. It was based on a legend that a Sumatran prince encountered a lion - considered a good omen - on Temasek, prompting him to find Singapura, or Lion City. It mattered little that lions had never inhabited Singapore (more likely the prince had seen a tiger). I wish I could tell you exactly how to get to Merlion Park, but you might get lost as we almost did yesterday. I suggest you take a cab.

Playground

Singapore government is promoting a healthy lifestyle. They are encouraging singaporeans to go to beaches, parks etc. Like this one, they decided to put a play area for children near the beach. You can also jog, bike or skate here.

Thanks..

Thank you for the warm welcome!

When I took this shot, I intended to show you that it has been raining here in Singapore. :) This was taken near Eunos MRT Station. Nearby, there is a hawker center, market and bus interchange.

By the beach

I took this picture inside the Singapore Sea Sport Center (yesterday's picture), about 15 mins walk from where I am staying right now, Marine Parade. I haven't tried swimming in the beach but it makes me miss Panglao Island in Bohol Philippines. By the way, I'm a Filipino. But unlike the beaches in Bohol, here you see a lot of ships near the beach since Singapore ports are one of (if not) the busiest ports in Asia.
