Funan IT Mall

There are two malls in Singapore where most techies go for shopping, The Sim Lim Center and Funan IT Mall. I prefer going to Funan, Sim Lim is just too crowded. And sometimes, the sales persons in Sim Lim are too pushy.

Here's a tip, if you are planning to buy a gadget in Singapore, be sure to research first, then short list your options. There are times, salesmen don't have enough patience if you ask too many models. And search for the cheapest price!

Candles

Philippines is now being hit by a strong typhoon named Milenyo. As a result, many parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces are flooded. There are also reports that most parts of Luzon don't have electricity.

I'm very concerned since my wife lives in Antipolo and my parents live in Bulacan, both provinces are very near Manila. I guess there is nothing more I can do now but pray. I hope everyone (not only my loved ones) will be kept from harm.

Little things

These are weeds which usually can be found in sidewalks. Whenever I see one, I always wish I have my camera with me. I do find them beautiful. So last weekend, I was walking in North Bridge Road, and I saw these. Without hesitation, I dropped on the sidewalk, almost lying down to take its picture. I like it, although I did not manage to get all of them in focus. Only one is in focus, I think.

Rugby

IMG_4852

This is the first time I saw a game of Rugby live. I used to watch the game on ESPN but I'm not really into it. I used to like NFL more, I also got tired of it. I stayed for few minutes, then I left. Here is the view from where I was sitting.

Quack Quack

IMG_4858

Looking for a different way of exploring Singapore? Singapore Duck Tours (that's how they call it) use amphibious vehicle that let them travel both in land and water. The main idea was to explore the city and Singapore River using the same vehicle. But it is not for me. I still think that walking is the best way to explore Singapore. It is a small city anyway. And the S$33 per head price tag is too high. It looks cool, though.

Where have you been?

IMG_4765

Back home, every Sunday most Filipinos go to either church, malls or both. Well, there are even malls that have catholic masses every Sunday morning so you don't have to choose. Me and my wife usually go there.

The picture shows St Andrew's Cathedral and Raffles Place.

Hilton...

Hilton Hotel

No, I did not see Paris Hilton (although I wish I did). Hilton Hotel is located in Orchard Road. I saw in TV last month that they serve delicious dessert especially their cheesecake. I wish I could try it, I wonder how much it will cost me.

Lazy, very lazy

Swan

Hey, its Friday! I'm starting to feel the weekend fever! I feel lazy, I want to sleep all day tomorrow. Unfortunately I can't, I will have a free workshop by Canon and at around 10 PM, I have to go to work. Well, that's life. Next week I'm sure it will be better as my wife will visit me. Hopefully I don't have duty then.

Orchard Parksuites

Orchard Parksuites (I think)

Orchard Parksuites
If I will win the lottery, this is one of the service apartments I will definitely consider. Located near Orchard MRT, everything is within your reach. But of course, it comes with a price (almost anything near Orchard comes with a steep price).
But it is not the building nor the service that captured my attention, it is its beautiful gate.

The gate.

Singapore Marriot Hotel

hotel

If I were to create a list of most interesting buildings here in Singapore, the Marriot Hotel would be on the top of my list, with its distinct pagoda style design. Whenever I go to Orchard Road, Marriot Hotel never fails to fascinate me. I like how the old looking pagoda stands out with the rest of modern shopping malls and hotels in the area (although this picture does not show it, maybe i'll try to take a wider shot of this building next time) BTW, I read in their website that they're going to be upgrading the guest rooms soon where there's gonna be a brand new 32" LCD TV's in all guest rooms! v.cool!

Serenade

IMG_4584

Although most Singaporeans I know are nice, but someone reminded me to refrain from taking pictures without permission. That's the reason why most of the time, I ask permission before I take a picture. Like this picture. I found him just outside Orchard MRT station. I was thinking twice if I can take his picture. When he saw me holding a camera, he gave a small smile.

I wonder why they have an elephant statue in front of the Arts House at the Old Parliament building. It's beautiful, though. and very daunting.

Under the Bridge

Under the bridge

Mostly everything here is clean. The streets, the river and even under the bridge. Singaporeans are pretty disciplined people, and trash disposal is so efficient, i feel like i could lie on the road and still feel clean!

Sky high

Fly

Can I still post this in Singapore Daily Photo? Because I'm not sure if I was still in Singapore when I took this shot, hehe. I love this shot 'cause it usually means that I'm about to go home and see my wife. =)

I think one of the most recognizable brand is Microsoft. Their Singapore office is located in this building, One Marina Boulevard (located at 1 Marina Boulevard :p).

One of the last...

Flower

This is one of the last pictures from my kit lens. I was told that it is beyond economical repair. Honestly, I don't really love that lens, it is too slow, focal length is limited, pictures not sharp enough. But it does the job.. And for a newbie like me, it is a good first lens.

Wanted: Investor

Looking for investment

Lately, Singapore is very aggressive on developing plans for the Marina Bay area. In the near future, you can see a casino, hotels and 3 gardens (I think some part will be an indoor garden) around this area. They expect to finish it by 2010.

P.S.
I made some "$@#$@" mistake, and now my lens have some moisture inside. I need to go to town to have it fixed.

Close Up

Esplanade

I'm sure some of you have already seen numerous pictures of the Esplanade, just wanted to show you guys how truly amazing it is up close.

From Wikipedia: The total cost of constructing the Esplanade is estimated at SGD 1 billion including the estimated land value and SGD 660 million for the building costs. It's Durian shaped (we have the Durian fruit too, back in Manila, it smells awful but a lot of people love the taste. personally, I don't get that. I mean, 75% of what we taste is actually due to our sense of smell, so, really...how can it taste good? hehe! sorry to durian lovers!), and is Singapore's most iconic performing arts centre.

Homesick?

Homesick?

oh, o-kaaaay. I'm the one who's homesick. He still looks pretty intriguing, though. I wonder what he's thinking....

Be courteous

Be courteous

For me, a simple way to show respect to others is by patiently waiting in line. But if you are in Singapore and you dont want to wait for a taxi, you can just call-a-cab. You have to pay $2.40 ($4.00 if peak hours) for that.
